The play Antigone begins with two brothers fighting for the kingship of Thebes. When both men die in battle, their successor and uncle, Creon, decides that one brother will be buried but the other brother will be left on the field of battle. Their sister, Antigone, finds herself having to choose between what she believes to be right: burying her brother, or following the laws of man and facing death herself. What happens when we are forced to choose between doing what we feel is right and what the world is telling us is right?  What forces us to take a stand? What are we willing to die for?

"In the title role, Josey Porras is a powerhouse. Antigone's every word and action is justified in her expressions and movements. It was impossible not to admire Antigone's tenacity and mourn as she sacrificed herself for what she believed to be right...The entire cast was outstanding in their respective roles, more than deserving of the standing ovation at the show's final conclusion."

ArtScene: How did you prepare for the role? Josey Porras: I actually got to read a scene from Antigone in college, and I recently told my professor, “We’ve come full circle! I hope you come to see a production!” I really resonate with Antigone with her big ideas about religion and spirituality. And I’m glad I kept those notes from six years ago.

“Tragedies often leave you exhilarated because someone has done something hard. These characters are trying hard to figure out how to bring their community together, and they have different ideas on how to do that, “explained the director. “And I have had numerous conversations even this past week on how hard the world still feels today, a year out from when the pandemic started. But we hope there will be light at the end of the tunnel.”
