A Doll’s House

November 3-November 26, 2017

Written by Henrik Ibsen

Directed by Kelly Roush

A Doll’s House, Henrik Ibsen’s 1879 drama digs into women’s roles and marriage with its story of a woman whose attempt to help her husband goes terribly wrong. Nora Helmer has years earlier committed a forgery in order to save the life of her strict husband Torvald. She now lives in fear of her husband’s finding out and of the shame such a revelation would bring to his career. But when the truth comes out, what really happens?

"The Classic’s cast is excellent. Nick Lawson is wonderfully awful as the pompous Torvald. Casella and Lewis are also fine, bringing out the humanity in characters who are driven by desperation. John Boyd also impresses as Torvald’s doomed friend, Dr. Rank. It’s Roye, however, who takes center stage, as well she should. Her Nora is a bundle of raw nerves, overcompensating for everything to please her domineering husband and present her “best face” to society. And when she finally musters the strength to confront Torvald in the final act, it’s both poignant and satisfying." -Kurt Gardner on CTX Live

“I was transfixed as Ibsen’s three acts unreeled before us…” “Director Kelly Hilliard Roush’s staging of A Doll’s House successfully established itself as operating outside a given time and mostly outside a given place, subtly stressing the validity today of the central theme of a piece written very nearly 138 years ago.”- Michael Meigs, CTX Live
