We are proud to announce our new Executive & Artistic Director!

Professional stage actor and director, J. Robert “Jimmy” Moore, is back in his hometown to join The Classic Theatre of San Antonio as our new executive and artistic director.

“The Classic Theatre of San Antonio is thrilled to welcome Jimmy Moore as our new Executive and Artistic Director,” says Randy Stier, The Classic’s Chairman of the Board. “We envision San Antonio as a vibrant city, rich with artistic experiences that connect communities, and we believe that live theatre supports this vision. Jimmy is a native of San Antonio who brings abundant leadership, directing, and acting experience from theatres across the nation. He has tremendous zeal, drive and determination, and a deep commitment to reaching out to our city’s varied communities. Under Jimmy’s leadership, we eagerly anticipate San Antonians enjoying the shared experience of relevant, diverse, entertaining, and transformative performances at The Classic Theatre of San Antonio for years to come.”

After graduating from Marshall High School in San Antonio, Jimmy went on to earn a B.F.A. in Production and Performance and an M.F.A. in Directing from Texas State University. Additionally, he studied with the Royal Shakespeare Company, Shakespeare’s Globe Theater, and the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts in England. Since then, Jimmy has worked in New York, Off-Broadway, at Madison Square Garden, and with regional theaters across the country.

“San Antonio’s arts community is vibrant and full of possibilities,” said Jimmy. “I want to continue to build on The Classic Theatre’s reputation for quality and professionalism in our city. For me, a huge part of that is creating a home for our theater artists where they feel fulfilled and respected.”

While classically trained, Jimmy has excelled at creating new and accessible approaches to theater, expanding educational programming, creating enhanced donor experiences, and bringing performances to uncommon spaces.

“I am excited to work with our city’s storytellers to find innovative and compelling ways for audiences to experience their favorite shows while also exploring creative additions to the classical canon,” said Jimmy. “I know The Classic Theatre’s artists and partner organizations have the passion, talent, and imagination to do that—so let’s take a huge step into the future together.”

What can you expect to experience (not just see) at The Classic Theatre in the coming years? Captivating performances in unexpected venues. New interpretations of significant texts. Diverse storytellers who bring unique and authentic voices to the San Antonio stage. And more of the artistry and craftsmanship you should expect from one of our city’s key cultural assets: The Classic Theatre of San Antonio.
