Job Announcement

The Classic Theatre of San Antonio, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, is seeking a Director of Development to join our small team to help us as we rebuild our theatre after the COVID-19 pandemic with community support. We are dedicated to creating excellent theatre that is relevant, diverse, entertaining, and transformative, and envision San Antonio as a vibrant city with a rich diversity of arts and culture which connects communities.

The Director of Development will coordinate and direct the overall advancement efforts of the organization. Other staff members and volunteers will assist the Director of Development with particular projects and special events throughout the year.  The Director of Development will work closely with the Operations Manager, but the position will report directly to the Executive & Artistic Director. This position is based in San Antonio and will require in-person attendance but allows for some remote work. Working with a highly motivated Board of Trustees, the Director of Development will have the following responsibilities:

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Create and manage a program designed to attract the maximum gift support possible for the theatre. This program may include major gifts; planned giving programs; corporate and foundation proposals; and annual fund solicitation.
  • Engage EAD and Development Committee in the fund-raising plans and activities of the office.
  • Cooperatively develop and supervise a plan to increase patron support and involvement at the theatre.
  • Create a complete program of necessary research and accompanying action plan for solicitation of the broad spectrum of the theatre’s current and prospective donors.
  • Research and pursue grant opportunities with charitable foundations.
  • Oversee processing of all gift income for the purpose of providing receipts, acknowledgements, and maintenance of donor giving records.
  • Maintains a list of potential financial donors including corporations, foundations, and individuals.
  • Assists in creating relevant and informative fundraising literature for distribution to previous donors and the public.
  • Oversees the fundraising process and maintains records of receipts and disbursements of funds.
  • Works with grant writing consultant to research potential sources of, and applies for, grants and public funding.
  • Tracks and completes reporting for all government, corporate, and private grants.
  • Creates and maintains partnerships with community organizations through planned shared events, sponsorships, and more.
  • Plans yearly fundraising gala and additional events that effectively communicate the purposes of the organization.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive & Artistic Director.

  • Proficient with Google Workspace, Canva, Customer Relationship Management (CRM) Database Systems, and Constant Contact.

Qualifications

  • The qualified candidate must have a combination of education and experience to successfully execute and meet the expectations and goals of the position, including at least three years’ relevant experience developing community partnerships and/or community outreach in the nonprofit industry.
  • Excellent writing skills will be indispensable for the success of the theatre’s grants and written solicitations.
  • Strong public speaking skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills are required. The individual must be comfortable in a multitasking environment; the ability to multitask in an environment of growth and activity with efficiency and effectiveness is essential to success in this position. The individual must exert a positive presence in the theatre community, listen well, and collaborate effectively as a team player.
  • Patience, a sense of humor, positive attitude and demeanor, flexibility, a strong work ethic, conscientiousness, energy, and professional manner and expertise, are key characteristics to successfully fulfill the requirements of this role.

Compensation and Benefits

The Classic Theatre of San Antonio offers an annual salary of $46,000.00, and a competitive benefits package that includes paid time off, 10 paid holidays, and employer contributions to a retirement plan.
