About Us
The Classic Theatre of San Antonio is a small nonprofit professional theatre in San Antonio, Texas. Our theatre works with The Actor’s Equity Association to offer Special Appearance contracts to AEA members.
Over the past five years, we have significantly increased the representation of women, both on stage and on staff, and we are committed to The Classic’s mission of producing excellent theatre that is relevant, diverse, entertaining and transformative.
We produce five main stage shows a year, as well as our Second Series, a series of smaller productions, partnering with local and national artists.
The Classic Theatre of San Antonio was founded in 2008 by Chris Cheever, Asia Ciaravino, Anthony Ciaravino, Diane Malone, Rick Malone, Terri Peña Ross, and Allan S. Ross, and counts among its credits over 70 Alamo Theatre Arts Council (ATAC) Awards.

Our Commitment to Equity, Diversity & Inclusion:
The Classic Theatre of San Antonio envisions San Antonio as a vibrant city with a rich diversity of arts and culture which connects communities. We actively work to create vibrancy and connection by producing shared artistic experiences in the form of regional theatre and community talk back that are relevant, diverse, entertaining, and transformative. Our professionally produced and performed plays are classic works of unmistakable commonality which connects communities spanning time and identity. The Classic Theatre has defined classic plays as relevant at the time of origin, relevant today, and likely to be relevant moving forward.
Creating shared experiences that connect San Antonio’s communities spans every aspect of our work.
- We seek to give voice to all of San Antonio’s communities by producing classic theatre and community events that involve people from a wide range of social and ethnic backgrounds, of distinct genders and sexual orientations, with recognition of varying physical abilities.
- The Classic Theatre is committed to allocating resources and opportunities to ensure that the voice of all of San Antonio’s communities have an equal chance of being heard authentically.
- We are devoted to cultivating and maintaining an environment where everyone feels welcomed, including the board, donors, staff, vendors, volunteers, artists, audiences, and the community at large.
We are publicly sharing these active living commitments to ensure transparency and to be held accountable by those we serve. On-going leadership activities include:
- ensuring that all organizational members are able and willing to accept and appreciate distinctions between each other.
- continuing to cultivate a caring culture within our organization, and
- analyzing the demographics of our board, donors, staff, vendors, volunteers, artists, audiences, and the community at large to assess who is present and who is missing, and thereby, developing strategies to engage those communities not yet represented.
The Classic Theatre commits to San Antonio, our community, to create theatre that is diverse, equitable, and inclusive.
